Rudies, a new Jamaican casual dining concept, is to open its first site in Dalston in September.

The 60-cover restaurant will serve traditional Jamaican dishes with a contemporary twist, including street food favorites such as spiced lobster patties.

Rudie’s signature ‘real jerk’ dishes will be marinated in a blend of herbs and spices for 24 hours, smoked using pimento and sweet wood, before being cooked over coals in traditional jerk drums.

A central bar will serve a selection of cocktails and Jamaican rum including Appleton Estate, Wray and Nephew, and Monymusk.

Co-founder Matin Miah said food was the primary focus of the site.

"We’ve spent a lot of time researching and travelling to find the best Jamaican ingredients and methods of cooking out there and we can’t wait to share them with our customers.

“The atmosphere at Rudie’s will be cool, funky, casual and fun with a huge smiling persona - we want to bring a great big slice of Jamaica to the streets of London," he said.
