Pop-up mall BOXPARK Croydon will consist entirely of food and drink outlets when it opens in 2016, the founder of the scheme announced yesterday (23 July).

Billed as ‘a Convent Garden piazza for the 21st Century’, BOXPARK will be constructed using 80 former shipping containers to create low cost space for traders.

High street chains will be banned in favour of 'fiercely independent, fresh thinking businesses' contributing to a 'casual dining revolution'.

Situated at Ruskin Square next to East Croydon Station, the site will feature over 20,000 sq.ft of events space to host pop up cinemas and mini music festivals.

“It’s not just about great street food, it’s about creating a special dining experience,” said BOXPARK founder Roger Wade.

“Clearly something special is happening in Croydon right now, and we want to be at the centre of it. I'm determined that as its culinary, cultural and social heart, BOXPARK will put a smile on Croydon's face and a song in its soul."

The original BOXPARK Shoreditch launched in 2011 and features a mix of retail and independent food and drink outlets, including Voodoo Ray’s, Porky’s BBQ and vegan outlet #CookDaily.

BOXPARK Croydon is slated to open in summer 2016.
