Young hospitality professionals are preparing to represent the UK at the WorldSkills Competition in São Paulo, Brazil, in August.

A team of 41 UK professionals aged between 18 and 25 will compete against countries from around the world at the international competition in a variety of different industries including engineering, beauty and web design.

Representing the UK’s hospitality sector will be Lucy Jones (Restaurant Service), Mikaela Wright (Confectioner/Pasty), and Danny Hoang (Cooking).

Jones, a receptionist from Hampshire’s Chewton Glen hotel, hopes that her experiences at the event will have educational benefits for those following in her footsteps.

“Since completing my three-year course at Brockenhurst College, I have been a regular visitor to the college for additional training sessions in preparation for the finals of WorldSkills in São Paulo 2015, and I really do hope that my experiences of this competition will be of benefit to other students studying at Brockenhurst College in the future,” she said.

Anita Bower, director of human resources at Chewton Glen, said: “Lucy’s place in the Squad UK is a tremendous personal achievement and we are delighted and thrilled for her, she has shown exemplary skills and real dedication to her professional training.”

This year’s WorldSkills Competition marks the first time that the event has been held in South America.

The competition is taking place between the 11th and 16th of August.
