The restaurateur behind Michelin-starred Pied à Terre and L'Autre Pied in London’s West End has launched a new US-style smokehouse and bar in the City.

David Moore and publican Sean Martin have opened One Sixty City, a larger sister restaurant to West Hampstead’s One Sixty, near The Gherkin in Houndsditch.

Inspired by smokehouse-style slow cooking, One Sixty City claims to combine ‘hearty American barbecue classics with a distinctive English flair’.

Meats are cooked at high temperature until ‘butter soft’, with dishes including eight-hour smoked ribs, 14-hour pulled pork, and 18 to 24-hour smoke brisket.

Traditional sweet, sticky marinades have been replaced by herbs and spices such as hickory, apple, cherry and oakwood.

Moore and Martin’s passion for local and independent breweries underpins the drinks menu, with over 50 craft beers and real ales available alongside a selection of cocktails.

The popularity of smokehouse and barbecue restaurants has boomed this year, with operators including Red's True Barbecue, Blues' Smokehouse and Meat & Shake eyeing further expansion.

One Sixty City is open Monday to Friday at 9 Stoney Lane, Houndsditch, London, E1 7BH.
