London-based independent coffee and cocktail group Grind has almost doubled its crowdfunding target to raise over £1.3m towards expansion.

The company hit its initial £750,000 goal in 20 days and will use the investment to develop a sixth London venue with an on-site roastery, as well as further expanding the business.

The group are also launching their own app and were one of the first businesses in the UK to accept Apple Pay when the service launched.

Abrahamovitch said: “We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from fans of the Grind across London. It’s incredibly exciting to start the next stage of our ambitious growth plans and take control of our supply chain.”

Founded in Shoreditch in 2011 by Abrahamovitch and musician Kaz James, Grind has since launched four sites with a fifth restaurant in Covent Garden opening in late 2015.

It is one of a number of hospitality business to use Crowdcube to fund expansion this year, including Pizza Rossa, Square Pie and Filmore & Union.
