The group has obtained planning permission to develop a 120-room venue in the Hungate area of the city.
It is the sixth UK location secured for the brand, which plans to open in Heathrow, Stratford, London Royal Docks, Ashbourne and Aberdeen in 2016.
Real Estate investment firm CBRE handled the sale of the York site on behalf of Hiscox.
Shaun Skidmore, senior director at CBRE, said: “A Moxy hotel would be a superb and unique addition to the York hotel scene, offering a fresh and contemporary experience for the younger end of the market.”
Marriott created the Moxy brand in 2013 in partnership with Vastint Hospitality – formerly known as Inter Ikea – in a bid to target the ‘budget-minded, tech-savvy guest’.
The group opened the first Moxy at Milan airport in September 2014, with plans to grow to a portfolio of 150 hotels worldwide over the next 10 years.
The hotels offer guests complimentary state-of-the-art computers and Wi-Fi, 42” flats screen televisions and built-in USB ports located throughout each room.
