Noble Inns executive chef Neil Rankin says the company is on the cusp of securing a new site for its barbecue restaurant brand Smokehouse.

The company, whose second Smokehouse opened in Chiswick in April, is currently bidding on a third site in London and is already planning to open another next year.

“We’re bidding on a site at the moment. I can’t say where yet, but we’ll be pretty excited if we get it,” Rankin told BigHospitality following his appearance at The Restaurant Show in London on Tuesday (6 October).

“We’ve got our own funding and are ready to go, it’s just finding the sites that’s the big issue.”

The chef, whose first cookbook is due to be published with Penguin in June, said there were no current plans to expand Bad Egg, which opened at the end of last year.

Rankin said he is also working with street food operation London Union on a number of projects and had started a food writing job with The Independent on Sunday.

“It’s all keeping me very busy,” he said.
