Harry Ramsden’s has signed a new franchise agreement to open 28 new restaurants across England over the next six years.

The partnership with Larentia Limitied will create more than 200 new jobs in sites across Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The first new outlet is set to open in Southend in early 2016.

Joe Teixeira, CEO of Harry Ramsden’s, said: ‘‘As a result of the brand’s successful repositioning, our franchising proposition is continuing to attract high levels of interest both at home and abroad.

“That we have now signed seven major agreements in a relatively short space of time is testament to the undeniable appeal and longevity of Harry Ramsden’s.”

The fish and chip chain are expanding rapidly across the UK, with 50 restaurants set to open across Yorkshire by 2018 following the company’s partnership with JVP Ventures.

It is also opening 50 Scottish sites by 2019, and began rolling out ten sites in West Sussex in 2014.

The chain said it was planning to open in Doha in Qatar and would re-launch in Saudi Arabia following a ten year absence.
