The Lighterman – named after Victorian era workers who sailed ‘lighter’ barges down the Thames - will span the ‘entire eastern side’ of Granary Square in King's Cross and offer all-day drinking and dining across three floors.
It will be the second venue from Open House - the sister company to Cubitt House - after Percy & Founders launched in March.
Executive chef Diego Cardoso will be heading up the kitchen to create a new modern British menu.
The site is set to include a canal-side bar, ground floor seating on Granary Square and an open kitchen complete with pizza oven.
Guests are promised a more ‘formal’ dining experience on the third floor, with a wraparound terrace offering views over the square and canal.
Open House said that The Lighterman was the next step in the group’s shift from traditional pub operators to running more ‘contemporary all-day drinking and dining venues’.
