British restaurant bookings account for 30 per cent of the total number of bookings made so far, with Italian restaurants in a close second at 29 per cent.
American restaurants follow in third place at 12 per cent, while steaks and grills make up 10 per cent of the number of bookings. European, French, International, Mexican, Thai and pizza restaurants complete the top 10.
Guests are now choosing to book further in advance compared to previous years. 13 per cent of Valentine’s Day 2015 bookings were made over four weeks in advance of the date, compared to 10 per cent of bookings in 2014. On-the-day bookings for Valentine’s day decreased by 14 per cent last year compared to 2014 figures.+
The restaurant bookings website also found that Saturday is the most popular day of the week for couples to dine out on with 21 per cent booking for then, while Friday comes a close second at 19 per cent.
Sixty per cent of couples of identify going out for dinner as a ‘more worthy’ date night, with the average spend hitting £42. The research also found that 41 per cent of British couples prefer to go to an independent restaurant rather than a chain offering.
