The Varsity Hotel & Spa in Cambridge is planning to open a £2m destination restaurant and bar on its top floor.

The 120-cover restaurant and bar will take over the sixth floor of the 48-bedroom hotel with views across the city and sit directly below its existing rooftop garden.

Hotel general manager Roberto Pintus said he hoped the new all-day dining space would become a destination restaurant for locals as well as another leisure space for hotel guests, who have included David and Victoria Beckham and actors Daniel Craig and Colin Firth.

“This opening will add at least 40 jobs to the local economy and will provide the city with a brand new dining destination and a completely new offering, giving both locals and our hotel guests incredible food and beautiful views in equal measure," he added.

The new bar and restaurant, as yet unnamed, will operate alongside The Varsity's existing restaurant The River Bar Steakhouse & Grill.
