US singer Kelis to open restaurant pop-up with burger brand Le Bun

American singer-turned-cook Kelis is to open a pop-up restaurant concept at London boutique hotel Leicester House, focusing on South American street food.

Opening with French-American burger group Le Bun, who reported the news on its Twitter account, the pop-up with be named KELISxLEBUN.

It will feature a mixture of dishes created by the star as well as favourites from Le Bun’s menu, such as hamburgers and South American ‘arepa’ buns. It will be open on 6, 7, 13 and 14 July, and also cater for this year’s Standon Calling festival, taking place on 29-31 July in Hertfordshire.

Le Bun recently finished its own standalone pop-up at Leicester House.

Kelis, who is perhaps best known for her 1999 and 2003 hits Milkshake and I Hate You So Much Right Now, trained at cookery school Le Cordon Bleu in 2008, and in 2014 released a cookbook, called My Life on a Plate. Her latest album was named Food, with tracks including ‘Jerk Ribs’ and ‘Biscuits n’ Gravy’.

Le Bun was founded in 2013 by Andy Taylor and Tim Talbot, and often caters at music festivals, such as Lost Village Fest.  

Kelis spoke to music magazine NME about the new project, saying: “I’ve been looking forward to bringing my cooking to London for years. This July I’m over for lots of festivals and it’s the perfect time to finally make this pop up restaurant dream a reality. The Le Bun guys are the perfect partners and I can’t wait for everyone to have a taste.”
