The Splendid Hospitality Group has acquired the 91-bedroom Ibis York hotel, in a bid to strengthen its presence in the northern city and surrounding region.

The company is now set to invest £1.5m in the Ibis York Centre, which is within walking distance of the city’s historical centre and York train station. The acquisition brings the group’s portfolio to 20 hotels, including three other existing sites in York: The Grand Hotel & Spa, Hotel Indigo York, and Holiday Inn Express York.

The Ibis – whose brand belongs to the wider Accor Hotels portfolio ‒ also offers free Wi-Fi, a 20-space car park, meeting room, and a café and bar, and is set to continue trading as an Ibis throughout the renovation process.

Other properties in the portfolio include the five-star Conrad London St James, the Hilton London Bankside, and city centre sites in Oxford, Edinburgh, and Leeds.

Stuart Bailey, chief executive for the Splendid Hospitality Group, said: “This is a strategic acquisition for Splendid Hospitality and an ideal fit for our expanding regional portfolio. The Ibis York Centre hotel boasts one of the most central locations in York [and] we are pleased to further enhance our partnership with Accor.”
