Absurd Bird, the American South chicken group from Splendid Restaurants, is to open its second London site this August, in Soho.

The 40-cover, Peter Street venue will be the second London location for the group, after its first opening in Commercial Street near Spitalfields in March this year. It is also the latest to be announced after the group confirmed new Absurd Birds in Exeter and Bath for later this year.

The menu will follow along similar Southern USA-inspired lines to the previous restaurant, plus new dishes for Soho, including Waffle Cones with Popcorn Chicken and a selection of Southern-inspired wraps. Other typical dishes include Corn Bread Pudding, Buffalo Wings; Sweet Potato Bake; Spinach & Artichoke Dip; as and Jalapeño Mac and Cheese.

The drinks menu will focus on the group’s own ‘Absurd Moonshine’ and ‘Absurd Lager’, created by the Signature Brewery in east London’s Leyton, and a cocktail list by mixologist group Soulshakers.

Set across two storeys, the site’s interior has been created by Design LSM, and will feature an open kitchen and a basement bar, with yellow velvet banquettes, blue leather seats, dark wood panelled walls, and zinc-topped tables.

The new opening is part of a wider expansion push for Splendid Restaurants – part of the Splendid Hospitality Group – which is targeting ten more openings over the next five years.

Mark Hall, group operations director, said: “Our second London site, while different in many ways from our flagship in Commercial Street, still retains its eclectic Southern menu with an interior exuding some old school Southern charm, and we are confident it will trade well.”
