On the subject of taking inspiration from your surroundings, The Grand hotel in Eastbourne is offering a seaside afternoon tea, with 'cockles and cones', plus candyfloss ice cream and Eastbourne rock crunch. It starts at £26 per person without Champagne.
Carlos Dantas, pastry chef, says: "Afternoon tea is extremely popular at The Grand, with annual sales in excess of 16,000 afternoon teas per year. It's definitely an important income stream and is one of the best ways of attracting local people and non-residential guests to The Grand.
"Afternoon tea is all about a sense of occasion and that’s what we offer our guests. The tradition of afternoon tea at The Grand goes back over 100 years and it’s that sense of tradition and being a really special celebration that makes our afternoon tea stand out."
