Choice Hotels International is preparing to ramp up its UK expansion plans as part of an ‘aggressive’ European growth strategy.

The company currently franchises more than 6,200 hotels globally, including over 40 in the UK under the Comfort, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion and Clarion Collection brands

Now it has appointed Peter S K Till as UK managing director for Choice Hotels Europe to oversee growth of the brand in the UK.

Till has over 40 years of experience in the hotel industry and joins Choice from a role as UK head of development and asset manager at the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

Choice told BigHospitality that though it was eager to expand there were no set number of properties in the pipeline.

“Choice is committed to the growth and expansion of its portfolio throughout the UK,” a spokesperson said.

“We have no firm number [of sites planned], but will grow the UK portfolio both organically, by targeting the right type of individual properties, and through a range of multi-property deals.”

It comes after the group launched its upscale Ascend Hotel Collection in the UK with the signing of two Edinburgh hotels earlier this year.

Mark Pearce, senior vice president, international division, for Choice Hotels said in January that there was an opportunity to have up to ten UK hotels within the Ascend Collection over the next three years.
