The UK’s top independent hotelier and best new hotel were recognised at the Independent Hotel Show awards in London last night.

Kate Levin, general manager at The Capital Group in London, received the Independent Hotelier award, while The Laslett in Notting Hill, London, won Outstanding New Hotel.

Levin, who is the daughter of The Capital Group founder David Levin, was full of praise for her fellow finalists, which included Eatdrinksleep founders Edmund and Charles Inkin, and Milsom Hotels chairman Paul Milsom.

“I’m the luckiest girl in the world getting to run such a special couple of hotels in Knightsbridge,” said Levin.

“I feel a bit of a fraud standing up here, there were far bigger and better people up for this award and I can only hope to learn from them all.”

The 51-room room Laslett, operated by hotel group Living Rooms, is spread across five Victorian mansions on Pembridge Gardens and opened its doors in summer 2015.

Living Rooms founder Tracy Lowy thanked her Laslett team as well as those who had cast their votes for the hotel.

The Independent Hotel Show awards shortlists are drawn up by experts and voted for by industry members online.

Previous winners have included Hotel Gotham, Olga Polizzi of Rocco Forte Hotels, and The Pig in Hampshire.

This year’s awards received over 3,000 votes, the highest number ever cast.
