Carrie Wicks is now chief executive of the South Africa-based Leeu Collection, after her shock departure from the role of operations director of Firmdale Hotels in January.

Wicks – who was at Firmdale Hotels for 19 years ‒ will now seek to drive the Leeu Collection to, in its own words, “an even higher level of excellence”. Prior to joining Firmdale, Wicks’ hotel career to date included over a decade’s experience across South Africa.

The Leeu Collection – which comprises four hotels, including its only UK outpost, the 30-bedroom, four AA-star Linthwaite House in the Lake District ‒ is owned by Indian business entrepreneur, Analjit Singh.

As well as Linthwaite House, the Leeu Collection portfolio comprises the 17-bedroom Leeu Estates country house retreat in the Franschhoek valley in South Africa; and the 12-bedroom Leeu House hotel and 21-room Le Quartier Francais hotel, both in Franschhoek village.

The group’s Franschhoek estate also runs to the Tuk Tuk microbrewery, and the Indian restaurant Marigold.

Commenting on Wicks’ appointment, Singh said: "Carrie [Wicks] brings strong management capability and strength to Leeu Collection as we enter a phase of focused attention on operations and excellence in guest experience. We are delighted to have [her] to lead the team.”

Wicks said: “I am very excited to be joining Leeu Collection. There is no doubt that Analjit Singh is an inspirational founder and I anticipate an incredible journey with him and the team as we grow and develop the portfolio.”
