Martin Burge leaves Whatley Manor after 13 years

Chef Martin Burge has left two Michelin-starred Whatley Manor in the Cotswolds after 13 years at the hotel restaurant.

Christian Landolt, owner of Whatley Manor, said in a statement that the chef had stepped down with immediate effect to move on to ‘new challenges’.

Burge has worked as head chef and later executive chef at the 23-room hotel since it opened in 2003, overseeing both The Dining room and Le Mazot restaurants.

Under his watch The Dining Room received numerous accolades including two Michelin stars and was ranked 21st​ in this year’s Good Food Guide Top 50 UK Restaurants.

Landolt said: “The hotel’s new general manager, Sue Williams, hopes to retain those standards in the future.”

He added that no information about Burge’s successor was currently available.
