Hilton is to open its first hotel in Doncaster at the town’s historic racecourse.

The company has signed a franchise agreement with Arena Racing Company (ARC) to launch the 154-room property overlooking the racetrack.

Construction will begin at the end of 2016, with the hotel set to open to the racecourse’s 280,000 annual visitors in 2018.

It is Hilton’s latest stadium property to open under the Garden Inn brand following the launch of a site at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in April. A 150-room hotel will open at Lancashire County Cricket Club's Emirates Old Trafford stadium in Manchester next year.

Stephen Higgins, ARC’s racing and property director, hailed the development as marking a ‘new era’ for the racecourse, adding that it would provide a ‘much-needed premium hotel’ for the area.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said: “With more than 280,000 people visiting Doncaster Racecourse in 2015, this hotel will provide prime mid-scale accommodation to domestic and international travellers alike.”

Hilton currently operates 138 UK hotels across eight brands.
