Former Michelin chef Steve Drake has revealed plans to open a new restaurant in Dorking, Surrey, this spring.

The former Roux Scholarship winner will launch his latest venture, Sorrel, on the site of the former Little Dudley House restaurant.

It follows the chef’s departure from his award-winning restaurant Drake’s in Ripley, Surrey, which he handed over to his wife in a divorce settlement last August.

Sorrel is set to serve the ‘very best of British food and seasonal ingredients’ when it launches later this year.

Drake said: “Dorking has a long association with food and was once the home of the UK’s largest poultry market.

“There are many, wonderful local food and drink producers in the area, and we hope Sorrel will be a welcome addition to the scene.”

Drake’s restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star within a year of its opening in 2004, but it lost the accolade in the 2017 Michelin Guide following the chef's departure.

Drake continues to run The Anchor gastropub in Ripley, which he bought with his former partner in 2003.
