Industry charity Hospitality Action is calling on the sector to help it raise a record-breaking £1.8m in the next 12 months.

The group – which supports hospitality workers struggling with issues such as illness, poverty and isolation – will celebrate its 180th birthday this year.

It raised £1.61m in 2016 with the support of big-name chefs including Raymond Blanc, Bruno Loubet and Ashley Palmer-Watts.

Now the charity is asking the wider industry to pledge its support.

Penny Moore, chief executive of Hospitality Action, said: “We want to make 2017 extra special by encouraging industry folk to take on a challenge, event or two and we are introducing even more fun events for everyone to get involved with.

“We’ve set our sights high but have every confidence in our supporters, both new and old, that we will have even greater things to celebrate by the end of the year.”

Take on a challenge

The charity is asking people to join in with its fundraising efforts by getting involved in a series of challenges, including:

  • 2017 Great Manchester 10K Run – 28 May
  • Le Tour de Cuisine Cotswold Cycle Challenge – 5 June
  • The British London 10K Run – 9 July
  • The Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 – 30 July
