The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London hotel has confirmed a two-phase, multi-million-pound restoration and renovation in 2017, including of the two-Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal restaurant.

The plans, which are set to be completed in Spring 2018, sees the 181-bedroom, five-star, luxury hotel work with designer Joyce Wang to create an atmosphere of luxury inspired by the property’s parkside location, its royal heritage, and Art Deco themes from the 20th century’s ‘Golden Age of travel’.

The first phase, to be completed by June, will include restoration of the historic Knightsbridge façade, alongside renovation of the hotel’s bedrooms and bathrooms.

The second phase will include renovation of the suites, alongside the creation of two new penthouse suites.

There will also be a renovation of the spa, and a new lobby entrance, which will see the hotel’s reception temporarily move further along Knightsbridge through the Ballroom entrance until summer 2017.

The hotel will remain open throughout both phases of the renovation, which will also involve subtle updates and ‘soft renovation’ of Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, The Rosebery Lounge, and Bar Boulud.

The latter restaurant – by New York-based, Michelin-starred French chef Daniel Boulud ‒ which opened in 2010, will relocate to a pop-up location in the food halls of nearby department store Harrods for the duration of its revamp, from 9 January to 12 February.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal opened in 2011, and is now overseen by executive chef Ashley Palmer-Watts.

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London is part of the Mandarin Oriental group, which opened its first hotel in Hong Kong in 1963. It opened in London in the 1990s, and is now one of 29 hotels and eight residences across 19 countries worldwide.

The group’s newest hotel is set to open in Doha in 2017.
