Culture secretary Karen Bradley MP has appointed new chairs of the British Tourist Authority and VisitEngland.

Former Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway will take over from Christopher Rodrigues as chair of the British Tourist Authority, which oversees VisitBritain and VisitEngland.

Denis Wormwell, ex-CEO of tour operator and hotel business Shearings Leisure Group, is to replace Lady Penny Cobham as chair of the VisitEngland Advisory Board.

The pair will begin their roles on 1 April for a three-year term.

Bradley said: “Steve Ridgway and Denis Wormwell bring with them a wealth of experience and will be dedicated champions of British and English tourism at a very exciting time for the industry.

“I would like to thank Christopher Rodrigues and Lady Penny Cobham wholeheartedly for the invaluable contribution they have made to the tourism sector over the past decade and beyond.”
