The Drapers Arms has proved it is the king of the scotch egg after being crowned winner of the annual Scotch Egg Challenge for the third time in six years.

The Islington pub, run by Nick Gibson, beat off 14 other competitors to claim the title with its haggis and panko breadcrumbed scotch egg, cooked by chef Gina Hopkins.

Chef Neil Rankin from Temper restaurant in Soho came in second place with his Lincoln russet beef with middle white pork, salt, pepper and MSG scotch egg and street food van MyPie picked up third place with its full English breakfast egg.

The annual competition was held last night at The Canonbury Tavern in Islington and was judged by Stefan Chomka, editor of Restaurant magazine, Bob Granleese, food pages editor at The Guardian, Rosie Sykes, development chef at Pint Shop, and Kiln’s Ben Chapman.

The winning scotch egg will be available to try at The Drapers Arms for the next few weeks.
