Mitchells & Butlers has apologised to an interviewee who was ‘mocked’ in a text message when applying for a job at its Miller & Carter steakhouse format.

According to reports in the national press, the interviewee was sent a laughing emoji in a text message after a job interview, writes our sister publication The Morning Advertiser.

Megan Dixon was interviewed for a role at the new branch of Miller & Carter in Enderby, Leicestershire.

She received a text message shortly after she left the interview with the words “it’s a no”, according to the Daily Mail.

Not engaging

When Dixon asked why, she received a message back saying “just not engaging” as well as further feedback on the interview followed by a crying/laughing emoji.

A spokesperson on behalf of Miller & Carter apologised to Dixon and said: “it was never our intention to be disrespectful or upset her in any way.

“The texts were sent in error and were intended for our manager, not the candidate.

“However, we expect our team to act professionally at all times and to give constructive feedback after any interview via email.

“We are taking this extremely seriously and will be investigation to ensure it never happens again.”

Food and drink sales growth

Earlier this year (January), Mitchells & Butlers reported strong food and drink sales growth for the four weeks to 7 January, which it attributed to a healthy Christmas trade.

The pub group also helped the Food Standards Agency now food hygiene scheme, which aimed to ease pressure on resource-strapped local authorities, improve good safety and adapt the current Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

Last year (November) Mitchells & Butlers encouraged thousands of pupils to take up careers in hospitality at the Skills Show 2016 in Birmingham.
