The campaign launched privately to friends and family a week ago on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, raising £200,000. It went public yesterday, (March 9) offering a 23.81% equity stake in return for the investment.
At the time of writing it had raised £277,540 from 18 investors.
The burger, wine and brunch restaurant launched in Battersea in 2011 and expanded to a second site in Earlsfield in 2014. The Crowdcube campaign was designed to capitalise on the third Ben’s Canteen site, due to open at Battersea Power Station’s Circus West restaurant scheme.
Founder Ben Walton says the company is looking at areas such as East Dulwich, Peckham and near Borough Market for further expansion.
As well as new openings, Walton says this year he will develop the concept’s evening food offer.
Ben's Canteen is described as being ‘an alternative to the pub; with the informal spirit of a great bar, but without Sky Sports and tap after tap of beer’.
Women make up 70% of customers at the brand’s two sites, which is why the company says it gravitated towards a focus on wine in January instead of beer for its drinks offer.
