Stanbrook Abbey, the former monastery turned hotel and fine dining restaurant, has been sold to Hand Picked Hotels for an undisclosed sum.

The grade II listed property was put on the market by hotel and venues group Clarenco, with the deal expected to complete this week.

The Worcestershire abbey, once home to an order of silent nuns, reopened as a hotel in 2015 following a two-year, multi-million pound refurbishment.

It now features 55 bedrooms as well as fine dining restaurant Sister Charlottes, a games room, banqueting halls, wine cellar and a garden pavilion.

The sale brings Handpicked Hotels’ portfolio to 20 country house properties, and forms part of a strategic expansion to grow brand in the west midlands.

Smith & Williamson Corporate Finance Limited advised on the sale.
