An immersive Italian pop-up celebrating the humble olive has launched at Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café in Southwark, London.

The restaurant’s basement bar has been transformed in to Olive Grove, a rustic Italian space complete with trees, vines and artificial sunlight.

Union Street Cafe head chef Davide Degiovanni, whose CV includes a stint at London’s Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli, has created a special bar menu designed to match with olive oil cocktails.

Dishes include buffalo mozzarella mousse with pane fritto and dried olives; sea bream tartar with olives, lemon and wild fennel; and olive oil, lemon and sage sorbet with dried capers.

Bar manager Davide Gagliazzo has  teamed up with Martini to create drinks such as the Olive Sour with Martini, olive oil, gin, and egg white; and The Cioccoliato with Bacardi, Martini Dry, olive oil, chocolate liqueur and mint.

The Olive Grove is open Monday – Saturday evenings, and its cocktail menu will be on offer in the main restaurant on Sundays alongside a special menu of Italian sharing dishes.

Union Street Café launched in 2013 and is part of the global Gordon Ramsay Group, which includes 31 restaurants with a total of seven Michelin stars.
