Palé Hall, the hotel and restaurant advised by former Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines, has become the first in North Wales to receive a five star AA rating.

It is the first time in 10 years a Welsh site has received the award, and there are just two other five star sites in Wales overall.

Owned by Alan and Angela Harper, the historic property opened in September last year after refurbishment. It is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.

Head chef is Gareth Stevenson, with Michael Caines ‒ former two Michelin-starred chef at Gidleigh Park and now of Lympstone Manor in East Devon ‒ advising on the restaurant menu and hotel F&B.

Dishes focus on local produce including meat from Gwynedd and Denbighshire, and honey from Llandderfel.

“We are extremely proud to have received this accolade,” says general manager Pim Wolfs. “Our team work hard to ensure that we provide the best service, food and comfort possible, and we are delighted that the AA have recognised this. As a family run hotel that has been open less than eight months, the five star rating is a huge achievement and I want to thank everyone who has helped us get there.”

AA commercial manager Alistair Sandall adds: “The service delivery and hospitality is first class and commensurate with all expectations at this high level.”

The business is celebrating with a series of offers in March and April, including room discounts, and complimentary Champagne and Prosecco for residents and diners.
