King's challenge will be to create a global dining concept for Pentahotels’ 27 lifestyle hotels in the UK, France, Austria, Belgum, Germany, Czech Republic and China.
He will also be tasked with establishing supplier networks, defining training standards and maintaining quality control.
King has cooked at Gleneagles in Scotland, and London’s The Savoy and Four Seasons Hotel at Park Lane.
He also worked at the five-star Little Nell hotel in Aspen, Colorado before joining Pentahotels as regional executive chef for Europe in 2009.
"John's work has been excellent over the last eight years and has made a major impact on the kitchens in all of our locations,” says Alastair Thomann, pentahotels' managing director.
“I am convinced that John will fill the position as our first executive chef perfectly, and continue to delight our guests with his special line in good, honest comfort food."
Pentahotels operates six UK hotels and said last year it was considering more than 30 locations to open further sites in the country.
