Ten MasterChef finalists team up to cook for charity

A group of ten MasterChef: The Professionals finalists have teamed up to host a charity dinner at Adam Handling’s restaurant, The Frog E1, in Shoreditch.

The chefs raised over £9,400 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, after hosting a dinner for over 60 people on 27 March.

Handling (2013 finalist) and Andi Walker (2015 finalist) decided to host the dinner after hearing about war veteran Albert Simpson, who was scammed out of £10,000 by con artists selling fake arthritis medication.

The chefs taking part included Elly Wentworth (runner-up 2016), Mark Stinchcombe (winner 2015), Dean Westcar (runner-up 2015), Brian McLeish (2014 finalist), Danilo Cortellini (finalist 2015), Joey O’Hare (runner-up 2015) and Gavin Barnes (2016 finalist).

Guests were treated to a five-course meal served by military personnel throughout the evening.

“I am overwhelmed by the support we’ve had from the public in raising money for SSAFA,” says Handling.

“As someone with a military upbringing, the charity is particularly close to my heart and something I wanted to get involved with.”

The chefs are planning to host a series of dinners to raise money for charity, with dates yet to be announced.
