The Japanese-inspired chain has secured a site in the multi-million euro extension of the Oriocentre shopping mall in Bergamo, Lombardy.
It is the first of a series of openings planned for Italy. Wagamama is also set to make its debut in France this autumn as part of a global expansion drive.
"We have been planning this project for over a year and a half and it is a great and exciting opportunity and development for the brand as Wagamama continues to expand internationally,” says Maurizio Raviolo, managing director of Wagamama Italia.
“We look forward to introducing our Italian customers to a range of truly amazing and authentic pan-Asian dishes from our Wagamama menu".
Restaurant entrepreneur Alan Yau launched the first Wagamama in London’s Bloomsbury in 1992.
The group now operates over 170 restaurants in 21 countries, including the United States and Saudi Arabia.
