Two-Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr and general manager at the Michelin-starred Galvin at Windows, Fred Sirieix, are to join forces with infamous restaurant critic Jay Rayner to present a new TV show.

Channel 4’s Tried and Tasted: The Ultimate Shopping List will see the trio foregoing their usual Michelin-starred fare, and tasting different foods from supermarkets – from everyday basics to the most expensive, luxury and branded products. It will also see experts advising on produce and taste.

The first episode of the eight-part series, which airs tonight, will include apple pie, lamb shanks, and whisky.

Welsh sheep farmer Jacob Anthony will be among the ‘experts’ advising on the perfect lamb shank, while spirits writer Joel Harrison will give tips on finding the best whisky.

Model-turned-chef and Instagram celebrity Isaac Carew ‒ who trained at Michelin-starred restaurants in the Gordon Ramsay Group ‒ will be cooking up the ingredients ready for tasting, and will be the only one aware of which product is on which plate.

Roux Jr, chef-patron at Le Gavroche and part of the iconic Roux culinary family – as well as overseeing sites such as Roux at the Landau, at The Langham London hotel ‒ already has a successful media career, and appears regularly on shows such as the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and Food & Drink.

Sirieix is not only known for his charismatic personality as part of the Galvin group, but has also found national fame as the presenter of Channel 4’s wildly successful First Dates series.

For his part, Rayner, who writes restaurant reviews for The Observer newspaper, recently found himself in global headlines for his scathing criticism of the three Michelin-starred Georges V restaurant in Paris, which he called “by far the worst restaurant experience I have endured in my 18 years in this job”.

He also appears as a regular critic on BBC MasterChef.
