Pizza restaurant Pi has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign to open three sites in south London.

Frankie & Benny’s co-founder Kevin Bacon and Kim Hayward, senior partner at BDO accounting, are both joining the restaurant’s board ahead of the expansion.

Pi is hoping to raise £500,000 through Growthdeck to roll-out a series of 50-60 cover restaurants in the London suburbs, with the first set to launch imminently.

The group, which first opened in Winchester two and a half years ago, serves 20 inch pizzas which can be split in half or thirds with different toppings.

It is the brainchild of founder Rosie Whaley, who has a background in fashion but worked in pizza restaurants in Florence ahead of launching her project in the UK.

“We think this is an ideal format to take to London,” says Whaley.

“Diners are very keen on pizza – but there is clearly a move towards innovative, artisan offerings, as opposed to the more sterile formats of the high street chains."

At the time of writing the restaurant has raised £130,000 from seven investors.
