The restaurant, which was founded by Matt Paice last August, is understood to have secured the former Talkhouse coffee shop site on Portobello Road, for its second permanent site, according to BigHospitality’s sister publication MCA Insight.
Earlier this year Paice told MCA that the business was in the process of raising £85,000 to help finance the acquisition of the lease in Portobello Road. He then plans to roll out the brand across west and central London, in properties from 900 to 1,200 sq ft.
Killer Tomato focuses on street food inspired Mexican dishes, with everything on the menu priced under £10. House tacos include Korean stick fried chicken; featherblade steak with a herb salsa; slow-cooked Vietnamese pork and cheeseburger.
The debut restaurant on Goldhawk Road is cashless and the plan is for subsequent openings also to only take card or payments with mobile phones. “Dealing with cash slows everything down... is time-consuming... is risky. Our experience so far is that 99% of customers are happy to pay with a card (or their phones),” according to the restaurant.
The group plans to grow to 10 restaurants over the next five years.
