The team behind Michelin-starred Hong Kong restaurant Serge et le Phoque are to launch their first London outpost in September.

The site will open at The Mandrake, a new independent hotel coming to Fitzrovia later this month.

It is the brainchild of French restaurateurs Charles Pelletier and Frederic Peneau, who won a Michelin star at their Hong Kong restaurant in 2015, while former Clove Club sommelier Bert Blaize will oversee the wine list.

The restaurant will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a daily changing menu made using modern French techniques designed to ‘surprise and challenge’ diners.

Dishes will include scallop with anchovy, fried leek root, dried shitake and matcha tea; octopus with century egg, ajj Amarillo, tobio and ginger; and dacquoise with almond biscuit, vanilla cream and nougatine.

The 54-cover restaurant will feature a 16-cover private dining room, and the team will also provide treats for the hotel minibar.

Serge et le Phoque is the second Michelin restaurant from Hong Kong to announce plans to open in London this year. Duddell’s, which hold two stars in the territory, is launching in London Bridge this autumn.

The original Serge et le Phoque site is also part of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Diners Club list of destinations to watch. This means that while the restaurant is currently not featured on any 50 Best list, it has been recommended by a panel of almost 1,000 independent experts worldwide.

Reservations at the London restaurant will go live on 15 September.
