London-based Japanese restaurant group K10 is to open a sushi restaurant in Farringdon dedicated to takeaway as well as expand its izakaya concept Beer & Buns.

The four-strong conveyor-belt restaurant group, which takes its name from ‘kaiten’, a form of sushi restaurant where dishes are placed on a rotating conveyor belt, will open the new site on Fetter Lane.

K10 recently acquired the former Tsuru site near Mansion House and also intends to re-open it under its dedicated takeaway concept, which it debuted earlier this year in the City.

It is thought that the company, which was founded in 1999 by Christopher Kemper, former development director at YO! Sushi, and counts industry veteran Ian Neill as chairman, is looking at further opportunities for the fledgling format, according to BigHospitality’s sister title MCA.

K10 will also grow its Beer & Buns brand, a Japanese izakaya serving craft beer and hirata buns located above its Appold Street K10 restaurant in the City that it says was born out of frustration of not being able to find a decent bar that provides great beer and authentic food.

It is believed to be in talks to open on the ground and first floor of 20 Bury Street in the City, near The Gherkin.
