Adam Handling’s The Frog E1 and the Galvin brothers’ Essex pub are among the 27 winners of Michelin Bib Gourmands 2018.

The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland announced the new additions on Twitter today ahead of the revelation of the 2018 stars at a live event on 2 October.

Ten London restaurants made the list, including Handling’s debut Shoreditch restaurant, Himalayan-inspired Madame D and former pop-ups Kricket and Smokestak.

Outside London there was an award for Surrey curry house Dastaan, which is headed up by former Gymkhana chefs Sanjay Gour and Nand Kishor, as well as Chris and Jeff Galvin’s pub Galvin Green Man.

Welsh pub the Hare & Hounds gained a Bib Gourmand after Michelin praised the cooking of former St John chef Tom Watts-Jones, who grew up playing in the pub garden, and there was also an award for ‘small but perfectly formed’ neighbourhood restaurant Noble in Holywood, Northern Ireland.

No new Scottish restaurants have won a Bib Gourmand.

Michelin introduced the Bib Gourmand in 1997 as a more budget-friendly alternative to the star rating system. The award recognises restaurants serving three courses for under £28 judged on both value and quality of food by Michelin’s anonymous inspectors.
