Andrew Wong has confirmed he is working on a follow-up to his newly Michelin-starred London restaurant A.Wong.

The chef, who opened the site in Victoria in 2012, told BigHospitality he is developing new projects both in the UK and overseas focusing on more relaxed Chinese food.

It comes after A.Wong won its first star in the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2018 yesterday (2 October).

The chef is believed to be joining JKS Restaurants and Caravan at the upcoming Bloomberg Arcade development in the City of London, but yesterday was unable to comment on the plans.

“Regardless of whether it's at Bloomberg or not we are working on some very interesting projects both in London and internationally, which will carry on what we do in the restaurant, celebrating China as a whole, using amazing produce and serving refined Chinese food with a bit of fun,” said Wong.

He added that any future openings would not follow in the same mould as his original restaurant.

“A.Wong is always going to be a personal project, my wife and I opened it at a site where my parents ran a restaurant for 25 years so it's always going to be a one-off," he said.

“We wouldn’t ever want to do this again and I don’t think I’d have the capacity to do so. Anything else we did do would focus on more relaxed Chinese food.”

A.Wong was among 17 restaurants in the UK and Ireland awarded their first star in the 2018 Michelin Guide.

“Once you win a star the important thing is to maintain that level,” said Wong. “Chinese food in London is constantly evolving so we need to keep trying new things.”
