Meatliquor is to close its Bristol restaurant after just two years in the city.

Writing on its Facebook page, the group said an unspecified ‘series of incidents’ had forced it to shut the doors on its first site in the west of England.

The restaurant will close on 22 October, but the company says it is actively searching for a new location elsewhere in the city.

“Our decision has not been an easy one, but after a series of incidents, both in the local area and in the restaurant itself, we have decided to put the safety of our staff first, something which is of paramount importance to us,” the company said in a statement.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would like to thank all of our amazing customers and the local businesses who have joined us for the ride.

“We still adore Bristol, and will be actively looking for another site. Watch this space…"

The closure leaves Meatliquor with 11 restaurants in London, Brighton and Leeds, alongside two delivery-only kitchens in the capital run with Deliveroo Editions.

The group is also planning to close its original W1 restaurant in Marylebone when the site is demolished to make way for a luxury hotel. The restaurant, which launched in 2012, is currently open on a month-by-month basis until its closing date is confirmed.
