London has got its first customised porridge bar with the opening of Butterscotch Bakery in the new White City Place development in west London.

The Goldilocks Porridge Bar forms part of the cafe - which has been launched by American baker and restaurateur Bea Vo - and which features 60 toppings from which customers can choose.

Customers pick a base of either organic Shipton Mill Pinhead oats with milk; activated five-grain (millet, amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa and flaxseed) porridge with housemade organic coconut milk; Greek yoghurt or chia seed pudding; or an acai smoothie bowl and then choose from a wide range of toppings that include maca powder, raw date syrup, blueberries, fig bourbon compote, and fudge sauce.

Butterscotch Bakery is part of the Feed Your Soul restaurant group, which specialises in American comfort food. Founded by Vo, the group includes London restaurants Stax Diner in Carnaby’s Kingly Court, Boondocks in Shoreditch, and The Famous Flames wings shack in Kentish Town.

“Originally, the Butterscotch Brekkie menu was going to be full of waffles and pancakes and french toast -a riff on the Boondocks brunch menu and instant crowd pleasers and thoroughly indulgent,” says Vo on Butterscotch Bakery’s website. “Then I asked dozens of friends what they actually ate for breakfast on a daily basis, and overwhelmingly, the choice was: Porridge.”

Other items on Butterscotch Bakery’s menu include a wide range of cakes, cookies, and brownies, including cheesecake cookies, strawberry blondies, vegan fudge raspberry brownies, red velvet cupcakes, and a Reese’s peanut butter cake.

Vo also founded London-based cake shop and bakery Bea’s of Bloomsbury in 2008, but left the business in 2013 to start Stax Diner.
