London restaurant group Bonnie Gull has launched a crowdfunding campaign to develop its spin-off ‘quality chippy’ brand.

The seafood specialist is looking to raise £200,000 on Crowdcube to fund the launch of its first permanent Salt ‘n’ Sauce site, which will open at the Westgate Oxford development​ next year.

The group says it wants the concept to become the UK’s leading fish and chip brand, filling ‘a void in the fast food industry for a sexier, high-quality chippy…that can be spun out across the UK and beyond’.

Co-founder Alex Hunter says the brand will ‘recreate chip shop classics', with a menu including Bonnie Gull’s signature beer battered North sea haddock with triple cooked beef dripping chunky chips.

The group is also planning to use the funding to improve Bonnie Gull’s existing London restaurants and expand the brand in and outside the capital.

Bonnie Gull began life as a London pop-up before opening its first permanent restaurant​ in Fitzrovia in 2012, followed by a site in Soho in 2016.

The group opened a site with a ‘seaside cafe feel’ in Exmouth Market in 2014, but it closed in 2016.

At the time of writing the group has raised over £46,000 with 26 days of the crowdfunding drive remaining.
