The acquisition of Admiral Taverns by Proprium and C&C Group has officially completed, as the pubco readies itself to “take advantage of the opportunities within our markets”.

At the same time Admiral has completed on its first package deal since its new backing was announced – the acquisition of 17 pubs from Heineken.

“I am delighted to welcome on board our new investors,” says Admiral chief executive Kevin Georgel.

“This transaction positions our business for long-term growth, ensuring we have the right platform in place to continue the significant progress we have made over the last five years and take advantage of the opportunities within our markets.

Speaking on the Heineken acquisition, Georgel says: “This acquisition is early testament to our commitment to our growth strategy and with the sale of our own business now complete, we look forward to reviewing further appropriate opportunities as and when they arise.”

Admiral Taverns currently operates a national estate of around 850 predominantly wet-led community pubs.

Last month it confirmed it had reached agreement in partnership with G1 Group to acquire 29 of the 30 pubs Heineken was forced to sell as a result of the Competition and Markets Authority investigation into the Punch takeover.
