A second Butterscotch, the bakery and tearoom that launched in London’s White City in 2017, is understood to be opening in the capital this year.

The bakery concept, developed by Bea’s of Bloomsbury founder Bea Vo, is believed to have secured a site on James Street in Marylebone for an opening this spring or summer.

Butterscotch is part of Soul Food Enterprises, the restaurant company run by Vo and chaired by David Ramsey, owner of investment firm Brunswick Management Services. It also operates Stax Diner in Soho’s Kingly Court, Boondocks in Shoreditch and The Famous Flames in Camden.

Butterscotch started life as an online ordering site but later opened its first site in West Works, in White City Place.

As well as specialising in signature cakes such as brownies, marshmallows and cupcakes and afternoon tea options, it also champions bespoke porridge as its morning offer. The bakery features a Goldilocks Porridge Bar where customers pick a porridge base and then choose from 60 different toppings.

'Pimped porridge' was highlighted by Restaurant magazine as a trend to watch in 2018.

A native of Virginia, Vo founded her first concept and namesake, Bea's of Bloomsbury in 2008, before leaving in 2013 to start Stax Diner. She was unable to comment on the opening when approached by BigHospitality.

Emma Flather at Hanover Green acted on the James Street deal.
