French hotel brand Mama Shelter is finally coming to London
Real Estate firm Crosstree has bought the 178-room RE Hotel in Shoreditch, which it will relaunch under the boutique brand.
The site will undergo a complete renovation led by French design firm Dion & Arles, while Mama Shelter will manage the property.
Mama Shelter, which was launched by the Trigano family in Paris nearly a decade ago, first announced plans to open in London in 2014 after global hotel giant AccorHotels bought a 35% stake in the business.
Targeting tech-savvy millennials, the brand has expanded to ten sites worldwide in cities including Rio, Los Angeles and Belgrade.
Its hotels offer large communal spaces with restaurants and bars open to guests and local residents, ping pong tables, and a photo and videobooth for guests to take pictures or videos directly from their rooms to 'keep a memory' of their stay.
“The RE Hotel property offers us an exciting opportunity to create a new destination hotel in an emerging and vibrant part of London,” says Jeremie Trigano, Mama Shelter chief executive.
Crosstree is the real estate arm of the family office of Swiss-Italian pharmaceutical billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli. It is run by former Starwood director Sean Arnold and former Blackstone director Nick Lyle, and is also developing the 268-room The Standard in King’s Cross.
