Famed Taiwanese dumpling restaurant to double up its London openings
Taiwanese restaurant brand Din Tai Fung is likely to open its inaugural UK restaurant in Covent Garden, not Fitzrovia’s Centre Point building as originally thought.

According to BigHospitality’s sister publication MCA, the company will soon launch a flagship restaurant on the former site of Henry’s Café Bar in Henrietta Street.

First mooted in October of last year, Din Tai Fung’s Centre Point site is expected to launch later this year.

Din Tai Fung is known for its dumplings, in particular its xiaolongbao (steamed soup dumplings). It also serves steamed buns, soups and rice noodle dishes.

The brand operates 135 restaurants worldwide. Two of its Hong Kong sites have previously held Michelin stars.

The group’s UK activity comes as a result of a joint venture with the Singapore-based food and beverage company BreadTalk Group.

London’s Taiwanese restaurant market is booming. The last few years have seen the launch of a number of specialist concepts including Mr Ji’s, Bao and Xu.
