San Carlo Group to open its fifth Selfridges-based restaurant this spring
Italian restaurant group San Carlo is opening a restaurant on the roof of Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street.

Alto will open on 27 April, serving an all-day Italian menu. It will be the fifth San Carlo Group restaurant to open in partnership with the high-end department store.

Dishes will include a shellfish sharer for two, comprising king prawns, scallops, mussels, clams and langoustines; seabass cooked in Sicilian black volcanic salt; truffle and pecorino ravioli; pea and scallop risotto; lobster with garlic butter and spaghetti.

The menu will also offer a selection of classic Italian dishes, such as cacio e pepe; grilled steak with chilli, garlic, rocket and parmesan; ‘caciucco’ Tuscan fish stew served with bread; and arancini filled with beef ragu.

A dolci menu will offer a selection of gelato, as well as Italian pastries.

Alto will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, both featuring floral installations made from Italian chinotto fruit; overhead foliage; and citrus trees.

“We’re excited to unveil our latest, exclusive concept for Selfridges’ most iconic location - the rooftop,” says Marcello Distefano, managing director at San Carlo Group

“Whether heading to the bar on the terrace or dining in the restaurant, we want people to feel like they’ve escaped the city to discover a real celebration of the best in Italian food, service and style.”

The £60m San Carlo empire is owned by the Distefano family, and includes 20 restaurants in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool Bristol, Leeds, Leicester, Qatar and Bangkok. Its flagship sites include Cicchetti in Piccadilly (a sister site of which is set to open in Bahrain), and Signor Sassi in Knightsbridge.

The group operates two restaurants each in Manchester and Birmingham Selfridges stores.
