Harneet and Devina Baweja have revealed more details about their upcoming follow up to Gunpowder, which will include a standalone bakery and wine bar called Custard.

Situated at 4 Duchess Walk in the One Tower Bridge development, Custard will specialise in savouries, pastries and sandwiches from across the Indian subcontinent alongside European influences.

Inspired by the old coffee houses of Kolkata, the 40-cover bakery will open in late July roughly one month ahead of Gunpowder.

Open all day (8am-11pm), the venue will serve breakfast and lunch through to pre and post theatre snacks. Menu items include butter chicken puffs, Bombay sandwiches, Goan pork sausage rolls and mutton and egg sandwiches, available to eat in or take away. Sweet options include sour Narangi custard tart with pistachio meringue and almond cherry and ghee cake, alongside soft serve custard.

“I’ve been aching to launch a bakery for so long. In today’s fast-paced society, we’ve completely lost the art of sitting down together and enjoying each other’s company over something simple but delicious to eat and drink. I aim to bring that back. We’ve got a great location at Tower Bridge and I want to recreate the relaxed atmosphere of the old coffee houses of Kolkata”, says Harneet.

The interior for both Custard and Gunpowder will be by Block1 who previously worked with Harneet on Gul & Sepoy.
