Giggling Squid lines up second London restaurant
Fast-growing Thai restaurant group Giggling Squid is to launch its second London site this year.

The 24-strong chain, which says it is now the largest Thai restaurant brand in the country, will open in the former Jamie’s Italian site in Kingston-upon-Thames this autumn.

It follows the launch of the group’s first London site in Wimbledon in summer 2017.

Giggling Squid, founded by Thai-born Pranee Laurillard and her husband Andrew in Hove in 2009, is planning to grow to 30 sites by the end of the year.

The chain's rapid expansion comes after it received a £6.4m investment from the Business Growth Fund in 2015, followed by an £8m bank facility from Barclays, to accelerate its growth.

The group opened in Beaconsfield last month and is planning to launch in Chichester, Windsor and Cheltenham this summer followed by Harpenden, Bishop’s Stortford and Kingston this autumn.

“Looking ahead we are now starting to see some reasonably good deals come up in the London area and we are currently considering a number of high quality locations inside the M25,” says Andrew.
